OxyVision AS improves performance in demanding production environments
OxyVision (OV) is a Norwegian R&D company focused on serving the aquaculture and the water treatment industries. Their main objective is to develop technology that improves productivity. The company’s goal is to have its technology become an integral part of standard operations in farming oxygen-sensitive fish species and at water treatment plants.
Aquaculture is a young industry that is rapidly changing, growing, and expanding to all parts of parts of the world and technological developments create profitable markets for companies able to meet the industry’s growing demands. Within the intensive aquaculture sector, lack of oxygen is probably the most important limiting factor for efficient production. Thus, oxygen injection has been routine in hatcheries and smolt farms for many years.
Over the past 20 years, paddle-wheels have been used in semi-intensive and intensive shrimp ponds to increase oxygen levels. However, oxygen deficit problems are frequently reported in grow-out farms in Norway, Chile, Canada, UK, Mediterranean countries, Australia, Asia and other tropical countries. To date, no technology has been available to effectively and efficiently tackle low oxygen situations in sea water and in intensive pond farms. Based on several research projects, OV has developed proven commercial equipment for supplying and controlling oxygen in sea cages producing salmon, trout, yellowtail, sea bream, sea bass and other species. Prototype oxygen injection systems for shrimp ponds and for other species are being developed.
All OV technology performance tests are thoroughly documented and RF-Rogaland Research, an independent Norwegian research institute, assesses and approves the test data. Results have been published in magazines (e.g., Norsk Fiskeoppdrett, Fish Farming International, Global Aquaculture Advocate and others) and in scientific journals (e.g., Aquacultural Engineering). Improved growth rates and feed utilisation due to better oxygen control have been documented, as well as reduced waste production and better fish health.
OV develops and delivers patent protected oxygenation systems:
GasX – is the most efficient diffuser-stone on the market, providing a high degree of efficiency and capacity, significantly greater than the competition. GasX requires a low opening pressure, so that it can be used in combination with oxygen generators, and its shape allows self-cleaning in fish tanks and optimizes oxygen distribution.
NetOx – is a patented technology to efficiently supply oxygen (or other gases) in large volumes or in large areas, such as in sea cages. To date, more than 200 such systems have been sold.
The system has been successfully used for the following operations:
- Lice treatment
- Emergency oxygenation with low oxygen content in seawater (Chile and Canada)
- Fish transport (wellboat and car)
- Grading, washing and handling of fish
Oxydos – is a dosing and regulation system, which can be delivered in several versions from a simple manual dosing to advanced automatic dosing of oxygen. The system is cost-efficient and is able to dose accurately according to demand. It is accompanied by simple user’s manual.
Logging Station – for measurement and surveillance of environmental parameters such as temperature, salinity and oxygen. Data can be presented locally or on the web, and the system uses optic technology for accurate measurement of oxygen.
