Dr. Patricia Moraes-Valenti graduated as a biologist in 1998 and as a fisheries specialist in 1999. She gained her MSc and PhD in Aquaculture in 2002 and 2005, respectively. She has worked in Brazil for many years, developing research and extension services on aquaculture. It includes two years in the Amazonia, transferring aquaculture technology to the rural population. In 1999, she joined a research network to develop technology for farming the Amazon River prawn. She has served the GTCAD – [Working Group on Freshwater Prawn Farming (Brazil)] as Secretary (2000-2004) and as Coordinator (2004-2006). Since 2011, she has served the Latin American & Caribbean Chapter of the World Aquaculture Society - LACC-WAS, as Secretary (2011-2013) and as Director (2013- ). Patricia joined the Board of Directors of Aquaculture Without Frontiers – AWF, since 2011. She has served as professor in aquatic biology and aquaculture in some universities since 2006. Currently, she is a professor in the University of Santo Amaro – UNISA. She is also enrolled with the Graduate Program in Aquaculture at São Paulo State University - UNESP, supervising Master and PhD students. Her research lines include Development Biology, Freshwater Prawn Culture, Integrated Aquaculture and Sustainable Farming Systems.
