May Myat Noe Lwin
Ms. May Myat Noe Lwin (Noe Noe) received her B.S. in Physics from Yangon University and an M.S. in Education from Assumption University in Bangkok. While teaching elementary grades at an international school in Bangkok, she learned about the growing aquaculture industry in Myanmar from an uncle, who worked on prawn hatchery, she decided to start an aquaculture supply business. After taking a short course on mud crab breeding course from SEAFDEC, she decided to give up her teaching career to focus on starting her own farm in Ranong, Thailand. She rented a series of abandoned shrimp ponds, renovated the facilities and constructed the infrastructure needed to operate three soft shell crab farming operations. Noe Noe also introduced polyculture aspects on the farms, rearing tilapia in the ponds. She also began buying other crab species from her suppliers and providing them as live products to her customers. As her reputation grew as a successful farmer and seafood trader, she was asked to train and advise other farmers at her farm and at workshops in Bangladesh, India, China, Myanmar, and Indonesia. She has also volunteered for Aquaculture without Frontiers and consults part time with the U.S. Soybean Export Council as their Myanmar associate.
